چکیده

We present a new potential field equation for self-intersecting Gielis curves with rational rotational symmetries. In the literature, potential field equations for these curves, and their extensions to surfaces, impose the rotational symmetries to be integers in order to guarantee the unicity of the intersection between the curve/surface and any ray starting from its center. Although the representation with natural symmetries has been applied to mechanical parts modeling and reconstruction, the lack of a potential function for Rational symmetry Gielis Curves (RGC) remains a major problem for natural object representation, such as flowers and phyllotaxis. We overcome this problem by combining the potential values associated with the multiple intersections using R-functions. With this technique, several differentiable potential fields can be defined for RGCs. Especially, by performing N-ary R-conjunction or R-disjunction, two specific potential fields can be generated: one corresponding to the inner curve, that is the curve inscribed within the whole curve, and the outer -or envelopethat is the curve from which self intersections have been removed.

A robust evolutionary algorithm for the recovery of rational Gielis curves

Gielis curves (GC) can represent a wide range of shapes and patterns ranging from star shapes to symmetric and asymmetric polygons, and even self intersecting curves. Such patterns appear in natural objects or phenomena, such as flowers, crystals, pollen structures, animals, or even wave propagation. Gielis curves and surfaces are an extension of Lamé curves and surfaces (superquadrics) which h...

Universal Natural Shapes: From Unifying Shape Description to Simple Methods for Shape Analysis and Boundary Value Problems

Gielis curves and surfaces can describe a wide range of natural shapes and they have been used in various studies in biology and physics as descriptive tool. This has stimulated the generalization of widely used computational methods. Here we show that proper normalization of the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm allows for efficient and robust reconstruction of Gielis curves, including self-inters...

Using Symmetry to Count Rational Curves

The recent “close encounter” between enumerative algebraic geometry and theoretical physics has resulted in many new applications and new techniques for counting algebraic curves on a complex projective manifold. For example, string theorists demonstrated that generating functions built from counting curves can have completely unexpected relationships with other geometric constructions, via mir...

Projective and affine symmetries and equivalences of rational curves in arbitrary dimension

We present a new algorithm to decide whether two rational parametric curves are related by a projective transformation and detect all such projective equivalences. Given two rational curves, we derive a system of polynomial equations whose solutions define linear rational transformations of the parameter domain, such that each transformation corresponds to a projective equivalence between the t...

A New Modification of Morse Potential Energy Function

Interaction of meso — tetrakis (p-sulphonato phenyl) porphyrin (hereafter abbreviated to TSPP)with Na+ has been examined using HF level of theory with 6-31G* basis set. Counterpoise (CP)correction has been used to show the extent of the basis set superposition error (BSSE) on thepotential energy curves. The numbers of Na+ have a significant effect on the calculated potentialenergy curve (includ...
